As a school, CCA desires a close relationship with parents so that parents and teachers are working in unison to achieve the highest potential success for each student. An excellent academic program is of great value in preparing students to have a mighty impact for Jesus Christ in the world.
Curriculum:
CCA will provide a sequential program of instruction including but not limited to: Bible, communication skills of reading, writing, speaking, mathematics, history, civics, literature, science, fine arts (music and drama), and physical education. A variety of textbooks are used to best educate. They are from Christian publishers such as ABeka, ACSI, and A Reason For.
Special Needs Children:
CCA recognizes that traditional Christian curriculum tends to favor traditional learners. We strive to reach all learners, but admit our resources do not enable us to adequately teach all kids. We are unable at this time to properly educate those students with special needs.
Homework:
CCA believes that meaningful homework will contribute to the academic success of students. It is our goal to give homework which reinforces concepts learned, provides independent practice of new skills, or prepares student for the next concept, increasing the student's ability to think, reason, and respond.
Homework assignments will be clearly stated and students will know what is expected of them. Some students will take shorter or longer to complete an assignment, depending on how they apply themselves in class and their mastery of basic skills. We understand that all students work at a different speed and pace. Homework will be minimized on weekends, holidays, or vacations.
Studies show that homework helps develop character traits such as responsibility, diligence, perseverance, and initiative. Homework can help students understand that learning is not just related to the classroom alone.
The average time spent on homework should be:
| Kindergarten: 10 minutes |
Grade 1: 30 minutes |
Grade 2: 30 minutes |
| Grade 3: 30 minutes |
Grade 4: 45 minutes |
Grade 5: 60 minutes |
| Grade 6: 60-90 minutes |

Report Cards:
Grade reports will be issued eight times a year. Informal reports will be issued at mid-term (4 to 5 weeks into each quarter). Formal report cards will be sent home at the end of each quarter.
Honor Roll:
Students will be honored for their academic achievement at the end of each semester.
The "All A's Honor Roll" will include those students who have earned A's in all their subjects. (handwriting, music, and physical education are excluded from honor roll)
The "All A's and B's Honor Roll" will include those students who have earned A's and B's in all their subjects. (handwriting, music, and physical education are excluded from honor roll)
Students will be presented a certificate and will be recognized at a special school assembly.
Promotion/Retention:
Students will be required to repeat the year if they earn three or more F's in major subjects (Reading, Mathematics, Science, History, Bible, or Language). The teachers will contact the parents for a conference to discuss a child's developmental needs and develop a plan for remediation before retention is considered.
Parent/Teacher Conferences:
Conferences will be held twice a year. The first conference will be at the end of the first quarter and the second during the third quarter. Conferences at the end of the first quarter are mandatory. Third quarter conferences are optional and may be requested by the teacher or parent. Additional conferences may be requested during the year as needed.
Standardized Testing:
In April, CCA will administer the Stanford Achievement Test (SAT). This test will be given to students in grades 3-6.
Weekly Folders:
Students will bring home all school work and communication from the office/teacher in the Friday Folder. Folders should be returned to school the following Monday. |
